The legacy of Madiba and those who failed

Image
As i sit here today, my mind wonders to the last time I celebrated Mandela Day. A day that had meaning for such a long time, where us as South Africans would celebrate the Legacy of Nelson Mandela and all that he has done for South Africa.  Will I be celebrating the once famous "Madiba spirit" "Ubuntu" unfortunately not. As a very famous and renowned radio host said not so long ago....The Ubuntu spirit no longer exists in South Africa, the legacy of Madiba is gone. Which is so true...and extremely a sad reality we have to come to terms with and we who still wish to uphold that legacy are paying the price of this new reality. A battle we tried our best to fight to keep the "Ubuntu" and Madiba Spirit alive and have greatly lost. So many people have for years "piggy backed" of Madiba legacy, what he fought for and stood for, for their personal gain. Not for the country and its people.  Which is very reminiscent of so many things some take and hold ...

Youth vs Adults I know in your family your parents generally decide what is best for you when you are young and they guide you through life.  Now that I am older and branching out into many areas where my curious mind is taking me I have come across one thing i find very interesting yet controversy.  When the war in Ukraine started, which almost feels like yesterday when I watching this horrible events unfold...I saw many people, families concerned for their children safety. That is of course something that anyone in that circumstances would be concerned about and it should be a priority to all to ensure the children are safe.  With that, the whole concept of "we doing it for the children / youth" has set me down a rabbit hole where I have been for the past year studying and doing more research on this...why...well we are the seeds of the future and I want to know how to take care of our seeds.  In my household, yes I am still a child however I am extremely fo...

SINGLE PARENT MISSION

Image
Some might say; what does she know, she is still so young. And yes I am still so young, but never underestimate a young person. Because we are living through these circumstances and having to deal directly with the consequences of them. I know no other life than my parents being divorced, since I can remember they where divorced, as has so many other kids. South Africa has the world's highest rate of single parent households (over 60%). Single parents are the norm, not the exception. Typically, a SA child has a living, but absent, father, and is raised by a mother in a single parent home. Absent fathers are on the increase. Now while this is not me talking about just my circumstances however, I want to raise awareness to the broader spectrum of the struggles all single parents face with out dated laws and regulations, how the court systems fail those parents and eventually affecting us, the kids, South Africa YOUTH…THE FUTURE.   Let me give you some insight and fig...

Not just a project

Image
We all get those school project with a "must have" list. Some even dread doing these project as it requires work outside of your classroom.  I want to encourage you to look further than just the project and the "must have" list so you can truly appreciate these projects and look forward to doing them as I do.  Firstly I have one big rule I apply when it comes to any project...ALWAYS THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX AND DON'T FOLLOW GOOGLE! Since I was young and did my first project which was to tell a story and have an object that coincided with the story. It just so happened that at that time I watched Narnia for the first time. Thus started the beginning of how I would approach any project with the motto of thinking outside the box.  For that specific project I created my own Narnia story and in true form I build my own Narnia world to display. What I learned from that very first project is that if you allow yourself to explore more ideas and to think outside the box y...

Goals will be achieved

Image
Since I was but a young little child, entering the big gates of my primary school there was this absolutely friendly student who welcomed me with open arms, made me feel comfortable and less scared than what I was.  Afterall this is such a big step in my life. Leaving the care of my mother and now having to trust those who are so new to my life.  That was the day I got to know the identity of a PREFECT, that was the day I said..ONE DAY WHEN I AM IN GRADE 7 I WANT TO BE A PREFECT.  Now that was years ago and so much has happened since that very first day. But I have never let that goal out of my sight, I never stopped working towards it. Yes it was not always on the front lines or on the top of my priority goals. Yet in someway I think because I had already in my mind and my heart set that goal that subconsciously I have done many things, worked harder, gone the extra mile and never stopped working on achieving that goal.  Truth be told, it was only really when ...

Never limit yourself

Image
Goals are very important. It gives you a sense of direction in which you should strive towards, but don't let that be your limit.  There is a very fine line between accepting the possible, settling for the less, aiming high and dreaming big. It is all very much like a maze that one has to navigate through. Because you don't want to fall short yet you also don't want to try.  Constantly navigating through this maze can sometimes make you feel like you just want to give up...but don't! just because you came across a dead end doesn't mean you can't turn back and make a different turn.  If i have learned anything in Life, it is that you shouldn't just laugh and smile during the good time but that you should embrace the sad and bad times. Yes, embrace the moments, cry, scream, shout, let yourself feel the pain, the hurt the disappointment.  Then you get back up, you take what you have learned and you start again. You can fall down again, it doesn't  matter a...

Adventures

There is a whole world that exist beyond our TV's or phones. One always see all these amazing thing on the TV, but how often do you actually go and be an adventurer explore the outside? For some time we have been exploring the "farm life" and have grown a huge love for the outdoors, nature and learning as we explore. Now we have decided to dedicate our time and joined Scouts full time.  Thus giving us more experience, we get to learn so much more about the outside world. The skills we gaining from Scouts is absolutely amazing, and we learn it through experience. Not a screen!  One aspect that we absolutely love about being part of the Scout community is just that, it is a community, a family, a team a unit. By being part of Scouts is not just all about learning the various skills of outdoors, but it also teaches you how to be part of a team, how to respect your fellow Scout, how to look out for each other. So for us we don't see it as just being part of Scouts, but r...
